Adornit...Make It Merry Blog Hop!!

I feel so lucky to be on the QKD DT as we have been asked to join the Adornit Make it Merry Blog hop!!! If you've hopped here from the previous participant FABULOUS and if not please start at the beginning of this awesome hop so you don't miss one creation!!

I IMMEDIATLEY knew the basic design of the card I wanted to do. I had been at Michael's only hours before and purchased this amazing paper and ribbon so I had new goodies to play with!!

I grabbed my favorite PTI Pure Poppy and made a 5x7 card base. I then used a piece of white cardstock distressed with 2 corners rounded to matte distressed the red and white "link" paper - with matching corners rounded. The paper has a great sheen to it but it's very hard to capture in the photo. I stitched these 2 pieces together using red thread with a zig zag stitch.

I then cut a large piece of the check ribbon and tied it up with a Buttony Bow. My new favorite!!

I chose to use the QKD Doodled Holiday Words stamp JOY. I stamped it on ivory cardstock using both gold and crimson Brilliance Pearlescent Pigment ink. I stamped the gold first and then dipped the edges of the stamp while it was still inked with gold to create this effect. I then covered it in embossing powder and heat set it.

I then matted the embossed JOY on gold cardstock with the corners rounded to mimic the original panel. I straight stitched around the outside edge with red thread.

Lastly, I added some of this fabulous, wired, check ribbon in a Buttony Bow for a fantastic finish!

Thanks for hopping along!!! Your next stop along this hop is Becky!!! Have fun!!

The Character Cafe New Release Hop!!!

I'm thrilled to be hopping today with the TCC Design Team!! The first Friday of the month is NEW RELEASE DAY here at TCC!!! I was lucky enough to work with Izzy Elf!!! Isn't she simply THE CUTEST!?!?!?!!? You will want to make sure to hop along so that you don't miss one of the teams stunning creations!!! If you arrived here from Billie's blog then you are on the correct path!!! If not you can start HERE and enjoy hopping along!

You'll notice that I have a couple of different pictures. I wanted to take pics outside today but it's raining here in the Northeast so I was stuck finding a good spot inside! Which can be difficult. So I show one photo with no flash and one with a flash.

For Izzy, I started with SU! Hunter Green paper. My card is 5x5 with all corners rounded. I then chose my first layer from last years SU! Holiday Paper measuring down 1/4" and rounded all corners as well. I then set my base aside and started working on Izzy.

I colored her with my Copics and Sakura paint and sparkly gel pens. I twinkled up her ears and hair with a glue pen and gold glitter as well as the pom poms on the toes of her elf slippers. I used my silver paint pen to deck out her collar and cuffs.

For the gifts surrounding her, I decided that in lieu of coloring that I'd paper piece them. So I chose 3 different patters of the same SU! Holiday paper. I trimmed them down to 8.5 x 11" and ran them through my printer printing the image 3 times over. I trimmed out each gift VERY CAREFULLY and laid them over the black and white image. I then used the same paint pens to color their ribbons. I then as a finishing touch added a green self-adhesive rhinestone to the middle of each bow on the gifts.
I then matted Izzy (with corners rounded) on some of my FAVORITE PTI Pure Poppy paper (corners rounded) and used my sewing machine to zig zag stitch around the perimeter of the matte. Izzy was finished. Now to add the finishing touches to my card.

I pulled out some wired ribbon that I just bought yesterday at Michael's. I was thinking the size and pattern may overpower the entire card but it worked great!! I tied it using the very quickly becoming famous "Buttony Bow" created by my friend Joanne!! (if you're interested you can see her tutorial on this. She's a WIZ...the tutorial is on my sidebar).

I then added Izzy complete with her matte using 3-D adhesive dots. Very lastly, I used my SU! Star punch and punched 3 coordinating starts out of the same paper and added them as a decorative touch on the upper right hand side of the card to balance everything out.

Thanks for hopping along with us!!

Happy Birthday Dear Friend!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Today is my fabulous friend Joanne's birthday. I wanted to give her a shout out and wish her the BEST birthday EVER!!!

She is ALSO an amazing source of inspiration to me both personally and creatively. We met early on in college, she was my Maid of Honor in my wedding...ahem...13 years ago! (yikes!) We've been through ups, downs and all arounds together and now we're in this kid raising thing together...THANK GOD!! =)

Joanne is the one who got my friends and I HOOKED on this fabulous world of crafting. Sure...I'd dabbled in scrapbooking for years off and on not having any real clue what I was doing. And then SHE went to a SU! Workshop and it was history from there!!

She has made a name for herself in the crafting world and I constantly go to her for advice, words of wisdom and help! =)

She is an amazing person but beyond that has ALWAYS been...my dear, dear friend...who I could count on for anything...in my good and my bad. And I will always thank her and love her for that.

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY my darling friend!!!!

OH and right!! A SHAMELESS plug!! ;) Well...not so shameless...I'm proud to have added a Tutorial section on the left hand side of my site. The first tutorial is something that Joanne put together to display how she creates her amazing "Buttony Bow!" I've been using it a LOT lately as it's SO easy and so fun and makes SUCH an impact on a project!!

PLEASE GO CHECK IT OUT!!! She's a fabulous teacher and an amazing crafter!!!

Thanks for reading!!

QKD New Image!!

Special QKD Welcome to Designer Melia Newman
Hey Everyone!! I wanted to show you my take on the Harvest Dragons that are NEW at QKD!!!

We had the honor of working with this ADORABLE and festive fall dragon stamp!! I love how they're hugging and I love the fabulous yet simple details in their wings, the cornucopia, and their facial expressions make me giggle! This was just wonderful to work with!!!

I did mine in festive colors to go along with the "Harvest" theme The papers that I used are both PTI or SU!. I colored the majority of the image with my Copics and the gold that you see is from my gold paint pen. I stitched the outer layers together and then used my best friend (in real life) Joanne's buttony bow technique to tie this RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE bow, button, twine combo.

I used my corner rounder on 2 of the 4 corners of the dragons and their coordinating mattes. The round sticker you see in the top left hand corner is from an old SU! Scrap Pack and the 3 feather pins are simply dress making pins that I picked up at JoAnn Fabrics. I always keep a stash of those and the heart ones on hand.

I hope you enjoyed this newest design!!

Thanks for visiting!!

XOXOX-
