MFT - Guest Designer Challenge - Texture plus a Triple Dip Challenge!

Greetings Everyone!!  Happy Holiday Weekend!!  I am beyond excited to be here with you this weekend as I've been busy playing with MFT today actually triple dipping into three fun challenges!!  I'm playing along with this month's Guest Designer challenge of which the theme is "Texture", this week's sketch challenge and I've thrown in a third option of making a Happy Birthday card for Kim, otherwise known as "The MFT Lady!"  .  Happy Birthday Kim!!!

Here is this week's sketch:
I decided to go monochromatic with my color palette.  MFT's main company colors are pink so thinking about Kim and her birthday I wanted to reflect the colors of her fabulous company!
I've done not only a card creation but a teeny tiny trinket box to go along with it.  But first, I'll give you the details about my card.  It's TEXTURE TIME!!!

It measures at 6 x 5.5".  My card base is SU!.  My next layer is a slice of lined, pink notebook paper.  I intentionally left the perforated edge on the top.  Because the notebook paper is so thin, I backed it with plain white cardstock...just for some added security.  I stitched around the edges for some added visual interest and quite honestly...I cannot create without stitching.  Period!  (wink!)
My layers after that consist of an embossed, polka dotted kraft cardstock, more SU! pink cardstock and a retired SU! pink designer paper.  (I'm sorry...I cannot remember the name!)  I then stitched those layers together.  I then created my stripey background layer - again using kraft, embossed, polka dotted cardstock, a scrap of My Mind's Eye pink designer paper, two Basic Grey scrapbook stickers and another slice of my notebook paper for my sentiment of "HB2U".   I saw this sentiment on oh so talented MFTer Michele's post for Kim's birthday and had to "borrow" it!!  Thanks Michele!
As you can see, I've used adhesive to make my little banner look like it's waving a bit.  Love that look!!!

I don't have any of the MFT doily Die-namics...yet! ;) so I used an element from my Home Accents Cricut cartridge.  I printed this out along with it's shadow.  I adhered the two and then ran it through my Swiss dot embossing folder.  Talk about AWESOME texture!??!?!  Love it!!  As you can see...in the center I've created a lush and sparkly felt flower.  I used Joanne B's technique as learned here to cut my felt and roll it up.  I secured the flower all through the creation process with hot glue leaving the center unglued so that I could add my white MM brad through the center.  I then used regular white glue and a small paintbrush to add my glue to the edges of my flower.  I poured out my pink SU! Supernova glitter onto a scratch piece of paper and dunked my flower in the glue.  I waited overnight until it was really dry and I shook the flower to get rid of the excess glitter.  I then hot glued it to my card.  It's a bit weighty so I didn't want to use a glue dot for fear of it drying out in the future and falling off.  Hot glue always does the trick!
I used MFT's Pure Innocence - Being Cute Is What I Do set.  I stamped her three times.  Once onto my best white cardstock from The Paper Source.  Then onto Kraft cardstock and one more time onto my pink My Mind's Eye pink designer paper.  I colored her with my Copics first.  I then paper pieced her shirt and pants.  I added a little shadowing onto the hem of her pants with my Copic markers.  I blinged up the flower on her shirt and her ponytail holders with a sparkly gel pen.  I then glittered up her shoes with the same SU! pink Supernova glitter that I used on the felt flower.  I trimmed her all out and settled her nicely in the center of my card.
My last touch was adding the star behind my doily accent behind PI's cute little noggin!  =)  I couldn't not decorate the interior of my card!  It's becoming such a great way to finish off a card!

I used the same elements on the interior that I did on the exterior.  I added a sweet little label using MFT's Well Worn Greetings set.

I simply used the star from the coordinating stamp set.  I stamped it in Versamark ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.

My coordinating element is my tiny trinket box!! It's made out of an old ribbon spool!  So cool, right??  And tre-eco friendly!  I wish I could take credit for this awesome idea but alas, I cannot.  I read about it in the Spring 2011 edition of GreenCraft Magazine - page 136.  So clever!!  I found one of my MANY empty ribbon spools and I gently pulled it apart.  I took a paper nail file and smoothed out any rough edges.  Here is what it looks like before I did any altering.  All you do is gently pry one side of the ribbon spool off and voila!  You're ready to alter!
I've stayed with my pink and kraft theme.  I created a larger felt flower for the top of my box to be a handle of sorts to take the top of the box off when you need to open it.
The circumference of my spool was both too large or small for any of my circular punches so I simply traced around the spool for my interior and exterior coverings.  I embossed my cardstock again with my Swiss Dot folder.  I used pink smooch paint around the bottom circumference and then coated in my SU! glitter.  I painted the interior with hot pink acrylic paint.
As a design element, I used MFT's Notched Tag Die-namic
I put all of the extra die cuts into the trinket box for safe keeping!  I used some fabulous pink polka dotted ribbon around the edge of the box as well as on the top.  All held on with hot glue.  I used a bit of baker's twine around my large felt flower in order to attach my notched tag to!  Stinkin' cute if you ask me!!  ;)
How could I NOT decorate the interior as well!!?!?!  =)  I once again colored my PI with my Copics, punched out the image with my circle punch and nestled her inside all snuggly!!
I think she looks super cute and happy!!  And it's a nice little surprise when you take out the die cuts - or whatever you choose to hold in there - and see her adorable little face!

I do hope you've enjoyed my very LONG post today!  If you want to come play along here's where the MFT fun is at!!!

Thanks so much and I hope you have a VERY creative long weekend!!
