Smeared Ink Design Team Halloween New Image Hop!!!

I cannot BEGIN to tell you how RIDICULOUSLY excited I am about the newest Smeared Ink releases that are coming out!!  There are 5 new rubber sets, available September 1st with shipping starting on September 6th and 4 new Digital sets available September 1st.

They are goth, creepy, gorgeous, and PERFECT for Halloween as well as our AMAZING October challenge - 31 Days of Halloween.

My project for today is using an image from the upcoming As Death rubber set.  I chose to make a frame, sans glass so that I could have 3-D elements including the beautiful SI sentiment as well as "doors" that open to reveal the stunning SI image inside.

I purchased the frame at ACM.  I removed the glass and decided to "guild" up 2 of the corners with gold acrylic paint.  I then sanded the heck out of it to distress it.  I then set it aside.

I measured the interior of the frame, taking into account the ability to have flaps open like doors and scored lines so that I knew how much room I had to work with.

I delved into my paper stash pulling out dark reds, greys, and light blues making sure that all of my papers had a vintage vibe to them.

I first started with my image.  It has a neo-classical vibe to it but definitely in a Smeared Ink way!!  Neoclassical was one of my favorite time periods to study in Art History!!

Anyhoo - I decided, for the FIRST TIME EVER, in my stamping career to use colored pencils in lieu of my Copics.  I didn't want the depth, darkness and vibrance of the Copics to overshadow the gorgeous lines of this image.  I wanted soft, almost transparent color so that the image shined.  And I think I did the job.

After I carefully colored and smudged my image, I took my children's basic water colors and mixed a few  together to get the exact greenish/grey/gold that I wanted and I painted the background.  I added rhinestones for her eyes and crackle glaze for his wings.  I set the entire panel aside to dry.

I then worked on my door panels.  The front panels/flaps are covered in red DP. On the left hand side I have my sentiment, which is edged with Tim Holtz tea dye ink and backed with shimmery Ivory cardstock.  Tucked in between the layers is a scrapbook sticker of a Joker playing card.  Creepy and fitting I thought.  =)  There is a velcro dot behind the sentiment panel holding the layers closed.

On the right panel I used scrapbooking stickers to spell out the word 'fury'.  One of my favorite sayings is "Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned"...hence the word Fury.

Upon opening the "doors" the interior doors are covered with the same grey DP.  On the left hand panel, I have a piece of vintage paper from a 1940's stove repair company log that I found at an old antique shop in Maine for $2 for the entire book.  I trimmed a piece out and framed it with tiny rhinestones.  On the right is the complimentary Joker card to the one on the exterior only this one says "Better Luck Next Time".  I'm thinking...in your next life!

I then worked on my main image.  It is all dry and ready to be added to my project.  I chose light blue DP with tan script on it.  I stitched around the edges in light blue, keeping it simple as to not to detract from my main image.  I then corner rounded my main panel and added it to my piece.  Lastly, I added the 3 crown embellishment that came in a fabulous pack of goodies from one of my darling and fellow Smeared Ink team members.

I placed it in the frame and stood back.  I was happy.  BUT!  I had made a bevvy of hand rolled paper flowers, coated in glaze and some with glitter to add to the frame exterior!  I then added 8 rolled flowers to the bottom left hand side of the frame and a key embellishment to the upper right hand side of the frame to add a bit of balance.

And whoosh...I'm done.  This piece was a journey for me...a delicious, fabulous and soul searching journey.  I LOVED it!!

Please keep hopping onto our next darling so that you don't miss ANY of the Smeared Ink girls' creations!!!
